Did the Cohen hearings provide you with your much needed "fix" in order to balance all of your anxiety and misgivings about President Donald J. Trump? There is the quantity of documented lies spewed by not only the president, but his entire family and what appears to be his entire administration. In what could only be labeled a partisan lay-down, the GOP members of the House Intelligence Committee seemed to forget that the inquiry before them was to determine if the president had engaged in illegal behavior, either as a businessman or as our sitting president. Instead, the GOP attacked the messenger, proclaiming him "unfit" to tell the honest truth to Congress. Except Micheal Cohen provided some important insight into the inner-workings of Trump World - and what we learned was not good. Republicans will claim Cohen "lied abut everything", except Fordham University has confirmed receiving a letter from Cohen demanding they safeguard Trump's education transcripts (See; www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/fordham-university-confirms-cohen-warned-it-not-to-disclose-trumps-grades). The obvious irony is Trump's repeated claims to be "a very stable genius" and his frequent attacks on Former President Obama; claiming Obama's academic record was only embellished because of his favored "African American status" under "Affirmative Action." Yet, what type of affirmative action do they call it when your daddy pays for your seat in college and university? Trump still labels African America journalists and politicians as somehow "stupid or ignorant". It seems Mr. Trump might be a tad embarrassed if real evidence surfaces proving he was hardly a "successful student" and more likely "less capable academically than others". In other words, the only thing Trump could have been competitive in school was his father's ability to buy his way into admission. Sad!
So, one claim proven accurate. Another? The story behind the unlawful use of Non-Profit Foundation funds for personal gain - the purchase of Trump's portrait at auction through a straw man and paid for with donated funds. How do we know this to be true? The Trump Foundation is under indictment in the Southern District of New York (See: www.cnn.com/2018/11/23/politics/trump-foundation-new-york-state-lawsuit/index.html).
Starting to see a pattern? Cohen himself was emphatic that Trump and those around him engage in a culture or pattern of routine lying, even when lying isn't even necessary (size of inaugural crowd, unemployment, and most recently, security clearances) (See: www.refinery29.com/en-us/2019/03/225759/ivanka-trump-jared-kushner-security-clearance-lie).
Yet GOP sycophants continue to chant "There's NO COLLUSION(!)" by the campaign with Russia!" Then why have the Campaign's Chairman, Vice-Chair, and a number of pre and post transition advisors pled guilty for lying about their involvement with Russia? It might not be "collusion", but it very well could be "conspiracy" since they were indicted and convicted for attempting to cover up their ties with Russians during the campaign. This programmed denial has been witnessed not only from the President himself, but from his Press Secretary to his favored television outlet, Fox News. Instead of highlighting the Cohen hearings, Fox chose instead to highlight Trump's vaunted summit with Kim Jong-Un, while pushing a fake narrative that "the Democrats chose last week to hold its oversight hearings specifically to rattle a sitting president of the United States while he is overseas pursuing World Peace." Except the only result of the now failed summit is Trump's siding with Jung-Un over the family of former North Korean hostage and now dead, Otto Warmbier. Again, our "great negotiator" Trump failed to strike a deal with a man less than half his age. That says a lot about the hype surrounding Trump and how he conned so many with his fake claims of "wealth, superior mental capabilities and talents (to lie). (See: www.axios.com/trump-says-kim-felt-very-badly-about-1551346104-697ef3e2-ae88-40b0-99c8-3bf1a615d3f2.html).
With all of the evidence laying at our feet, how come so many amongst us still support Trump and his corrupt administration? Could it be that folks still supporting the man never think to check on facts as they arise, and only rely upon hyper-partisan outlets for their "news" (which is based upon lies and half-truths). How do I know this? Somehow I was subscribed to on-line conservative groups. Amazingly, they LIE daily. No wonder so many Americans are confused. Here are but a few examples just from this past week from right wing outlets.
From Judicial Watch: "Cohen’s testimony is not credible, and he has a demonstrated record of not only lying to Congress but violating his ethical duties as a lawyer. Cohen’s testimony not only abused Mr. Trump’s rights but Congress benefitted from this abuse and arguable obtained confidential documents belonging to Mr. Trump in violation of its own rules, President Trump’s rights, and the law." Or, "Judicial Watch sues Andrew McCabe for his coup documents!".
From the Tea Party.Org. "BREAKING NEWS! Lynne Patton: "Michael Cohen Flipped On Trump Because Mueller Threatened To Jail His Wife For 30 Years... Read the latest now on TeaParty.org." Or, "Hillary Confessed!" Or, "Confirmed, Campaign volunteer proves Russia claims are a set-up!" And my favorite, "BREAKING NEWS! Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg caught on video being helped through Reagan airport!" Considering Justice Bader-Ginsberg is recovering from lung cancer surgery, such a statement can only be meant to stir negative emotions that either relish her poor health and/or death or resignation from the high court. Amazingly, the Right Wing has officially begun retiring Hillary Clinton as their official "poster child for hate". It seems Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) is their newest demon (See: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/01/why-conservatives-cant-stop-talking-about-alexandria-ocasio-cortez/579901/).
With additional hearings planned for this coming week with Michael Cohen's testimony, the Democrats are now on the investigatory path the Republicans forgot to follow when they wielded the levers of authority in the House. We have a lawless president with a lawless administration. Something drives them to habitually lie - even when it is not necessary. Perhaps it is the "culture of lies" Cohen tags Trump World with. Although Trump may not be removed from office within the next several months - Americans will see the evidence of this Con, and hopefully they will come to their senses and remove this cancer from our presidency, by electing a new president in 2020. And for the GOP? You reap what you sew. Good luck surviving on the constant diet of lies you spew, digest and repeat.
As President Harry S. Truman once wrote; "Richard Nixon is a no good, lying bastard. He can lie out of both sides of his mouth at the same time, and if he ever caught himself telling the truth, he'd lie just to keep his hand in." It makes me wonder what Harry would have said about Donald J. Trump? Try to have a great week!
