Now that Joe Biden has been certified the winner of the Electoral College and will be inaugurated President of the United States, things are sure looking up and everything is great now. Except it isn't great - and will not be great until action is undertaken to identify every person involved in the seditious act of attacking our Nation's Capitol and they are held responsible. The people that must be accountable can't just be limited to those that actually stormed into the Capitol - but also those that gave support to the notions that the election was "Rigged" and "Stolen" and that group goes very far beyond the people that physically blitzed our capitol. It extends to those that undertook efforts since November 3 to attack our democracy and its legitimacy.
You see, elected officials claiming Trump had "every legal right" to contest the election are now cowering behind the shield of hypocrisy they alone created. When you repeatedly lie and tell people the election was rigged, flawed and stolen, how can you expect them to not believe you? And when you then state you are only supporting the feelings of your constituents by supporting the attack on our Election's legitimacy, you are now engaged in a circular logic created solely to confuse and corrupt.
Nothing could further prove this insanity than when sycophantic television personalities along with Republican officials publicly claim that the real insurrectionists were "infiltrated by Antifa" - as if that alone is the reason for treason. But facts, which have been conveniently "Altered" by the GOP for four years, can't seem to resonate with the brain dead MAGA crowd. The only people that attacked our Capitol were Trump supporters. Yet, without a shred of evidence, GOP members of Congress (See Matt Gaetz) claimed on the House Floor in the joint session that Antifa was really involved. Now we all know that is a lie, but Tucker Carlson said that night on on his Fox show, so it must be true, right? Except it is not true. You see, the very same logic was applied to the outcries that the election was stolen. Based upon lies and more lies, the GOP and MAGA ran with it. Unfortunately, this crowd will never learn that spewing lies will someday come back to haunt you - because they are never held to account for their behavior and speech. Free Speech has never been absolutely free. Inciting violence is not protected by the Constitution. The entire Trump MAGA phenomena has been built upon lies and the only way to resolve this problem and heal our Nation is to expose the lies and the liars that promoted it as being untrustworthy and culpable for criminal sedition. Now some are saying we must let Trump and the elected officials that supported him be left alone so we can heal - ignoring the great damage done. Our Founding Fathers and Framers would have none of this nonsense. It's as if some would actually believe they would have apologized to King George for revolting against him. Not a chance.
Perhaps one of the most disappointing images of the Trump insurrection is the one with the two idiots atop a scaffolding along the wall of the Capitol Building taking down the American Flag and hoisting a Trump flag. Perhaps they would be better off living in Trumpistan than America?
This reminds me of the time a former student approached me on the first day of American Government class to claim that taxation was not allowed under the Constitution. When I pointed out the Sixteenth Amendment allowing for the direct taxation of the people, he commented that because it was "an Amendment, it wasn't what the original Constitution allowed for and therefore, shouldn't be considered." When I asked him how he would defend himself on this claim, he said we had the "right to arm ourselves!" When I pointed out it is the Second Amendment that protected his right to bear arms and that the original draft of the Constitution didn't originally proclaim such a right, he simply slinked away. This is along the same line of thinking MAGA's have about of Government. When confronting a women who was teargassed during the insurrection, she cried and said it was "unfair" she was tear gassed. When asked what she did to get herself gassed, she innocently claimed she was only trying to get into the building because she was part of "The Revolution." So being gassed is too much mistreatment while admitting to seeking to overthrow the government? (This ignores the inequity of how people were treated by law enforcement during the BLM protests this past summer). Remember MAGA supporting Trump when he said "When the looting starts, the shooting starts?" Where was the shooting when these White MAGAs committed sedition? Her privilege over runneth if she honestly believed herself to be a "patriot" if her aim was to destroy our democracy in favor of a monarchy led by Donald J. Trump.
Perhaps what is sadder are the reports Trump was actually "enthusiastic" while watching the chaos of the insurrection piercing the sanctity of our republic while rampaging within the halls of our Capitol. And now the GOP and MAGA are demanding we heal by letting them all off the hook. I say no. I say, prosecute them all. I mean all - from every media pundit that spewed this Un-American bullshit to those that actively objected to the election on the floor of Congress. There is a cancer in America and it is the GOP and MAGA. It must be eradicated so America can recover and heal. Stay safe, and try to have a great week.
