In the Senate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY-R) may be facing a primary fight in his bid for re-election in the 2014 Mid-Term Elections. As a result, McConnell is also concerned about the political fallout of negotiating in good faith with the Democrats and the President. Instead of worrying about what is best for the Country, these GOP "leaders" are seemingly more concerned about saving their own political "skin." Talk about a failure of leadership!
Had a great discussion tonight with Robyn Davis on WWPR1490 regarding the "Fiscal Cliff", the debt ceiling, sequestration and the unfortunate negative impact politics is having on reaching a reasonable solution to eliminate the threat or potential impact of the "Cliff." As you may recall, a Romney supporter recently complained to me that Obama has failed as a leader because he is too concerned about his political position. Now that Obama has secured his re-election, who instead is now more concerned with politics than the President? House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) faces an intra-party fight for his Speakership with TEA Party members of the House GOP caucus are threatening to destroy the coalition. In the event Boehner cannot deliver their no new tax positions (as required by the Norquist Americans for Tax Reform Pledge), the TEA Party members of the GOP caucus may seriously consider supporting their main man (and current House Majority Leader) Eric Cantor (VA-R) for Speaker next month as the House begins a new session.
