Now we see a nationwide effort to support universal background checks for firearms with over 75% approval of the pubic, yet again, the GQP OPPOSES such efforts. Can anyone actually tell us why? It couldn't be the political influence of the National Rifle Association could it? While in bankruptcy proceedings, the Republicans still bend a knee at the NRA's altar. Could it be that the NRA was funneling Russian money into GQP political campaign coffers? Are they still more afraid of Putin than the fellow Americans they disagree with? Of course they are. Now Mitch McConnell has publicly stated that corporations should continue to support them with big campaign contributions, but should remain silent when they disapprove how those State level Republicans pass legislation geared solely to harm voter rights. "The Pay and Shut up" position probably is not a very good campaign slogan from the Republicans. Not only are they losing the support of a vast majority of the American mainstream, they now bite the hands of those corporations that have supported them for a long time. Perhaps it's time for the Corporations to awaken and realize the GQP is really about making money and retaining power, instead of working to better all of our lives. Case in point. GQP Congressman Greg Stuebe of Florida makes it abundantly clear in his communications to constituents that he only represents those that voted for him, not those that he actually represents. Again the GQP is not the party of Propose, but the party of Oppose (unless you include white supremacy - they have that market cornered - along with the racist Evangelical Christian crowd).
Just last week when the big American Rescue Plan was passed, including billions of dollars that are to be distributed to all 50 states to help State and local governments recover faster and fully from the Covid era. Why did every Republican in Congress vote against the Rescue Plan? Despite over 75% approval by Americans of all political stripes, the GQP remains firmly opposed to it. Florida Senator Rick Scott vocally opposes Florida from even accepting available Rescue money. Seems some Republicans enjoy confusing their base by connecting Socialism with Revenue Sharing, as if the money was a sinister "Socialist" plot instead of simply being action to redistribute our own money. Isn't that what Federalism is really about? Of course it is, but the modern GQP would rather support a dictator and Fascism than real democracy based upon a fairer system of capitalism - except when it fits their narratives (see cancel culture from the Right and related hypocrisy).
Perhaps the GQP could learn a lesson from Theodore Roosevelt who once famously wrote; "If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn't sit for a month." Let's hope the voters remember which political Party "proposes" and which "opposes" and kicks them in the pants come 2022 Midterms. We can only hope. Have a great week!
