We finally arrived in Baltimore with the expectation of staying on the plane for our continuation flight to Columbus. After allowing all others to deplane and wait to be counted as "continuing passengers" as instructed by the flight crew, we were informed that the entire flight to Columbus had been "cancelled." So, instead of kicking up the dust and complaining, I simply handed our boarding passes to a gate agent and said, "these should be self-explanatory." Fortunately, we have been assigned a later flight to Tampa, but from Baltimore and not Columbus. Thankfully, we will be saved the time and mileage of traveling west for 2 hours before heading south for another two. Even better, because our flight to Columbus was cancelled, our bags were transferred to an earlier flight that we could not make (due to it being full). So, the plan is for us to meet our awaiting bags in Tampa. At least that is the plan! All in all, we are none the worse for wear, some 12 hours into our day facing one more flight of slightly more than 2 hours and then our drive home to Venice. Isn't modern jet travel fun? Just a little longer and then, Home Sweet Home.
Due to inclement weather, my quest to get home has taken several twists and turns. After arriving at LaGuardia Airport at 9:50am for an 11am flight, weather created havoc and we were not able to depart the gate until after 3:45. Originally scheduled to fly to Baltimore then Columbus, Ohio for a final flight to Tampa, Southwest Airlines suffered from serious weather related domino effects. Flights were delayed and/or cancelled and travelers were left scrambling for air alternatives. Our connecting flight from Columbus to Tampa had already left Ohio before we had even touched ground in Baltimore.
