As mentioned on my Political News of the Day page, Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney's designated budget attack dog, seems to have been exposed for hypocrisy when it comes to his incessant rants about the "irresponsible spending" going on in Washington and the damnation of Barack Obama for his "Failed and Wasteful Stimulus!" For years now, Mr. Ryan has been selling us all on the notion that Washington is broken and that the federal government wastes billions in taxpayer money and that only he and the GOP have the answers to all of our budget concerns. In fact, Mr. Ryan delivered the official Republican rebuttal to Obama's State of the Union Address last January, wherein he claimed the Stimulus was just another example of wasteful spending by the Democrats and that Obama's spending was harming America. But don't take my word for it, read his exact words from that rebuttal:
"Unfortunately, instead of restoring the fundamentals of economic growth, he engaged in a
stimulus spending spree that not only failed to deliver on its promise to create jobs, but also
plunged us even deeper into debt. The facts are clear: Since taking office, President Obama has
signed into law spending increases of nearly 25% for domestic government agencies - an 84%
increase when you include the failed stimulus."
Now letters from Mr. Ryan lobbying FOR millions in Stimulus money have been revealed. After years of plainly denying any involvement in asking for Stimulus funds, Mr. Ryan now reluctantly admits that he both asked for and received Stimulus funds for his Congressional District, to the tune of $20.3 million!
I have absolutely no problem with a member of Congress working hard to bring Federal money to the district he represents. What I have a problem with is the cold and calculated hypocrisy of publicly condemning the Stimulus while all along using access as a Congressional leader (and now National GOP candidate) to "bring home the bacon" he so eloquently railed against for years. According to a report by ABC OTUS News, ""I'm not one [of those] people who votes for something then writes to the government to ask them to send us money. I did not request any stimulus money," the congressman answered." "After repeated denials, Paul Ryan has admitted he requested stimulus cash even after sharply criticizing the program." So much for the ideal candidate for VP right? Mitt Romney has publicly stated his values are "virtually identical" to Paul Ryan's. Is Paul Ryan the perfect running mate for Romney?
