Now that the "dust has settled" with Sequestration a reality, where are the Republicans that slammed the President a few weeks ago? Remember how they initially claimed Sequestration was Obama's fault and when it appeared the public was not buying that narrative they pivoted to a new one asserting "cuts really won't be that bad?" Remember? Of course you do.
In a recent article published by Politico, Sequestration's cuts are not as "minor" as Conservatives and their supporting media have led us to believe (although I am not sure how many thinking Americans believe anything promoted via ideologically based media). In fact, the cuts are beginning to have such a negative impact, Americans have begun venting their frustration...on Republican members of Congress. And Conservatives thought Obama would be the only one complaining!
According to Politico, citizens facing Sequestration-related furloughs are demanding something be done to undo the harsh cuts that affect Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans, those working on military bases, on small college campuses, small airports, meat processing plants and those servicing the disabled and poor. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office ("CBO"), as many as 1 Million Americans will suffer either the loss of thousands of dollars of income or lose their jobs entirely (like educators, teacher aides and those servicing the poor). But hey, the narrative was that Obama was "just blowing smoke" when he said Americans will be hurt by Sequestration! Once again, Conservatives are proven wrong. You can expect Congressional Republicans to quietly come to the bargaining table to discuss a real budget for fiscal year 2014 (and not one that leads off with the repeal of Obamacare). As President Eisenhower once said; "Don't think you are going to conceal thoughts by concealing evidence that they ever existed." It's time to get serious folks, on both sides of the political aisle. But when it comes to "crying wolf," we should be looking squarely at Conservatives and their supporting Media. Friends of Hamas, Senator Menendez with Prostitutes, Paul Krugman declaring bankruptcy, and now Sequestration. I have a novel idea. Be honest and tell the truth...it really won't hurt a bit.
