Make America. America Again!

​Not one to cavalierly scream about threats to our National Security, I am very careful to use World events to avoid couching them in political terms.  However, as one that knows our presidential history, I am more convinced than ever that we now have a president that has either lost his mooring from reality or is gambling with our nation’s security in an effort to secure some impossible advantage with an authoritative leader of a foreign government - proven to be dedicated to harming our democracy.

No matter how much the Right Wing Media may spin the recent Trump-Putin “summit”, one can only be left with the opinion that we as a nation are in dangerous times wherein an American president has abdicated his Article II “Take Care Provision” responsibilities by siding against our national intelligence agencies along with the Bi-Partisan Senate Intelligence Committee determination that Russia attacked our electoral process via a coordinated and sophisticated Cyberwarfare.  Mr. Trump’s international rebuke of these findings, as well as his efforts to ascribe a level of blame against the United States for Russian interference reveals his lack of appreciation for the gravity of matters typically presented to presidents to handle.  When given an opportunity to confront an aggressive enemy for proven crimes against our democracy, Trump chose while on foreign soil instead to side with that leader and to blame America instead.  By raising again and again pending investigations into his campaign’s potential involvement in this Russian interference, Mr. Trump’s ego can’t seem to recognize the seriousness of the matter.

When asked if Russia engaged in interfering with our electoral process, Trump instead asserted that the problem was inherited from his predecessor.  When Trump sycophants declare Trump has been “tougher on Russia than Obama”, they suddenly go mute when they hear with their own ears our American president cast doubt and ultimate blame on America itself.  In an effort to “bring our nations closer”, Mr. Trump continues his rhetoric that his election was and remains valid and the “past is the past.”  Thus far, the Mueller investigation has turned over 30 indictments as well as a handful of guilty pleas.   By demanding we move from the “past”, Mr. Trump seems to believe that anything that he or his campaign improperly engaged in should be forgotten.  In other words, Mr. Trump embodies the GOP’s mantra of the “means justified the ends.”  

If any American president ever publicly stated he has sided with an enemy of America over our own intelligence agencies and Senate, he would have been immediately subject to serious discussions of impeachment.  So what is different with Mr. Trump’s own words?  Although I take impeachment very seriously, Mr. Trump’s words and actions have indeed risen to the level of violating Article II.  With the GOP in charge of Congress, we can expect their actions will not match their words of condemnation.  As a result, Americans that have not fallen for Mr. Trump’s Con, are now more impatient for Mr. Mueller to move faster towards ending his investigation and for filing indictments where they belong, even if they include Mr. Trump. 

America is reaching a breaking point with a president who is either totally incompetent or fails to appreciate that his actions affect more than his personal fortunes.  If the GOP does not move to protect Mr. Mueller and Mr. Rosenstein from those dedicated to protect Trump, we must demand a change in Congressional leadership. Fortunately, America has this opportunity this November with the upcoming Mid-Term elections.  One can only wonder what former President Ronald Reagan would think of our current president and the Party of Trump, formally known as the GOP?  For those tiring of Trump’s “winning”, stay diligent and instead of making America Great Again, let’s Make America, America Again!  Have a great week!
