Which leads me to my impressions. To those so disappointed that Mitt Romney lost and your emotional depression is so intense that it leads you to actually believe that "America is now a Communist country" I have this to say; last night was not a night for America to feel embarrassed! Last night was a night that once again showcased America to be a vibrant democracy deserving of envy of the entire World. But how can I say this? Because America proved again that we can all go voluntarily (or not) to the polls in our communities and freely vote for whomever we wish. We do not have thugs pushing the tips of swords or guns into our backs forcing us to vote for a particular candidate. We do not have suicide bombers blowing themselves up along with polling places and innocents in order to disrupt our democratic process. We also do not take the losing candidate (Mitt Romney) out back and put a bullet in his head just because he or she lost! We don't expect those supporting Gov. Romney to commit suicide in order to "save face" due to their embarrassment (although "Fair and Balanced" Fox News sure turned on Mitt as soon as it was apparent that he would lose).
Over 118 Million Americans voted for the candidates of their choice in a number of races in each state. No folks, last night was NOT a "dark day" for America...it was a bright shining example to the World proving that Freedom, Liberty, Diversity, and Democracy are alive and well in the United States of America! For my former students personally and emotionally hurt because they voted in their first presidential election and their candidate lost I say this; Get involved, take an active role and make a difference because within two years, you will find another candidate to attach yourself to. I have been voting for presidents since 1976. I have enjoyed supporting winners and losers seeking the White House. Regardless of the outcomes of those elections, America survived and thrived. We are a nation of equals all seeking that basic tenet of our Democratic Republic; Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!
So although you may be elated with the outcome of the election, you should appreciate the pain of your fellow Americans who convinced themselves that they were supporting a candidate that was best for America. And if your candidate lost last night, please reflect on the beauty of our electoral process and think very hard before you vent your disappointment. The sun DID come out today, America is still the greatest nation on the face of the Earth, and we all just experienced a shining example of our beautiful Democracy!
Wait...there's more....
Fox News, America Deserves Better!
Folks, Fox News exposed themselves for being the purveyors of the most cynical hypocrisy known in modern American politics! Instead of congratulating President Obama and the 61 million plus Americans that supported him, Fox decided to throw Mitt Romney "under a bus" at perhaps the lowest point in his amazingly successful life. Instead, Mitt Romney is to be graciously thanked for his serious attempt to win the White House. No candidate likes to lose. As you may know, I was an endorsed political candidate (in an earlier life) who ran for public office. The disruption to my life and that of my family throughout that campaign was enormous and traumatic, but it couldn't possibly or remotely resemble the stress and strain Mitt Romney and his family has gone through for over two years! No folks, Mitt Romney served his Party with his entire heart and soul. Although Mitt Romney did not deserve my support or vote, he does deserve our thanks for offering his life for public service. Is it just me or are others amazed that President Obama gave gracious thanks and more respect to Mitt Romney than the talking heads at Fox News? Republicans please wake up. Fox News has been filling you all with hate, fear and cynicism, but also keep this in mind. Fox News and their "experts" issued prediction after prediction that Romney was going to win. That all the polls were not to be trusted (all BUT Rasmussen were right)! Isn't this enough evidence to prove to Conservatives that the form of ideological news produced on Fox and their channels do not share Americans values of fair play? Fox does not promote a desire to bridge the gaps between our political leaders, they choose instead to cynically debase the value of our government and the diversity of our great Nation. Fox News, home of misinformation and cynical hypocrisy. Mitt Romney deserves better! Conservatives deserve better! America deserves better!
