Due to a hectic schedule, I am unable to write a lengthy blog this week, however, I did want you to all be aware that the lies being told to the public by Trump and his supporting media have indeed hit their respective targets - Trump voters! Yes, those gullible, sycophantic cult-like followers surely eat everything spoon-fed them by groups that try very hard to look legitimate, yet serve only a hyper-partisan objective - to mislead millions of Americans and to manipulate them into a mindset the Founders and Framers would find more than a bit unpatriotic. Yes, these followers are exactly the group of Americans the Russians found so easy to manipulate. Now, taking their lead, Right Wing outlets have capitalized on this reality by driving ridiculous narratives that always seem to work with the "Trump voter!" Let's take a look...
According to the Sarasota Herald Tribune, Trump confidant and indicted conman Roger Stone was recently hosted by "Women for Trump Sarasota-Manatee." Yes, you read that correctly - Women for Trump! Anyway, the indicted was invited to come to promote his "Roger Stone Did Nothing Wrong" shirts and paraphernalia to the brain dead that attended. Except The Mueller Team indicted Stone for lying to Congress about his involvement in the unlawful hacking of DNC emails by Wikileaks. But instead of challenging his claims about social media platforms unfairly and unlawfully targeting Conservatives and Libertarians, the newspaper let his words speak for themselves. His claims are without merit, and a newspaper championing the First Amendment should be tasked with the obligation to decipher political propaganda and lies from the truth. Instead, the local paper printed their story on Page One with the requisite page one headline; "Trump Ally Stone ID's Political Threat." What? Throughout the article, Stone's claims are amplified in such a way as to make them appear credible when in reality, they are a shameless plug for authoritarian oversight. Does anyone for a second actually believe Stone believes in the First Amendment for those that attack him for what he truly is - a provocateur and snake oil salesman who today still believes Richard Nixon as president did nothing wrong. He might as well have a picture of Nixon on the back of his shirts proclaiming innocence, since he still pushes pro-Nixon rhetoric. *(Stone famously touts his tattoo of Richard Nixon spread across his shoulders).
Listening to Stone lie to the public in an effort to gin up support for himself and Trump, the media seems to be aiding and abetting him. Why? Because nothing in the article explains why Mueller's team felt it necessary to indict him in the first place. Evidence of his success in convincing Trump supporters of his position can be found in the article itself - "We are here today to support a man who's being persecuted today solely because he was associated with the Trump Campaign." Another is quoted as saying "These trumped-up charges would have not been brought save for the fact that he was associated with the one man who can take down the deep state - Donald J. Trump!" And the cult speak!
I have no problem reporting on Stone's appearance in Sarasota, but putting his claims on the front page of the paper in headlines is irresponsible journalism - unless of course you are representing Judicial Watch (which only pursues hyper-partisan attacks on Democrats) or TeaParty.org - who regularly swing from arguing about the virtues of "herbal medicines" to "Send money today to help President Trump expose the Deep State." Odd isn't it that there is no actual "Deep State?" The term was originally pushed as a political narrative by none other than Mr. Stone - who sells books filled with twisted and out of context "evidence" and presents them in manipulated and tortured ways - all to take money from the gullible.
Another lie seemingly taking hold in Right Wing circles is the notion that the Democrats have done nothing but "persecute Trump" and "they need to get on to more important things!" Except that too is a lie. The Democratic-led House has passed dozens of Bills only to find them dead in their tracks by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Seems the GOP finds it necessary to not only block all oversight of the president, but also seems intent to block every measure passed by the Democrats in the House. If there is any truth to the "swamp" being Congress, it is clearly being shown that it is a GOP creation as they seem to relish the opportunity to gridlock America to stay in power.
As I have mentioned before, the consolidation of print and broadcast media has led to a homogenization of the dissemination of real news (as opposed to partisan based propaganda). Congress needs to look into this issue - but only after we see that Trump and his Administration is removed from office via the ballot box. In the event Trump is re-elected, out nation may slide further into the abyss of division, aided by the Republican Party (to the delight of Vladimir Putin and Russia). Real patriots don't lie to Congress. Real Patriots don't get indicted for lying. Real patriots call out those that mislead the public for their own political advantage. It's time for Real Patriots to vote Trump OUT in 2020. As former American Statesman Adlai Stevenson once wrote; "If the Republicans will stop telling lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them." Have a great week!
