Regardless of these polls and political narratives, the strangest thing to happen was Romney surrogate John Sununu claiming former Secretary of State, General Colin Powell did not endorse President Obama because he honestly felt he was the only clear choice for him but solely because Obama is black. Yes, you are reading correctly. Romney surrogate John Sununu opined that Colin Powell only endorsed Obama because they shared the same skin color. With all of the faux outrage from Conservatives claiming resentment from the racism claims and the"war on women" attached to them, perhaps we are really seeing the GOP in the proper light. Perhaps they are so filled with hatred, and fear of losing the election fair and square, they cannot even recognize how racist and misogynistic they actually are. Ironically, I think most Americans can see what the GOP and their followers cannot. With the recent comments from Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock and John Sununu (all with the support of Mitt Romney), their true beliefs seem plain as day.
Was today a strange political day or what? Mitt Romney continues to claim to have "momentum" in the presidential race even though virtually all polls show his "bump" after the first debate has shrunk and Obama continues to maintain solid leads in many swing states. More importantly, all polls (except Rasmussen) indicate Obama maintains a leads in Wisconsin, Iowa and Ohio outside the margin of error. As a result, the continuous claim of "momentum" by the Romney camp appears hollow. Not convinced by the polling, I contacted some folks in Ohio and found out that the term "Battleground" aptly applies there. Television spending on campaign advertising is setting record highs and voters are swamped with mailers from both the Romney and Obama camps. Robocalls flood the phone lines and the candidates and their proxies press the flesh throughout the state. According to my friends, Obama is maintaining a solid lead, especially with women in Ohio, so the Romney claims are definitely out of touch with reality. It appears though that any event might sway the remaining "undecided" voters (whomever they may be), so the race in Ohio may go to the wire (or it may not).
