Today I read a letter to the editor claiming that all of our problems would magically just go away if we all would, "just be nice to our President" and to "stop being so mean to Trump." Seriously? As mentioned previously, folks like the letter writer have found a reason to love King George II and instead call those Sons of Liberty "Sons of Bitches?" Are these the same folks that believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows, or the Earth is flat? Are these the same people that claim Jesus will save them from the pandemic but always cling to their guns for protection when they fear anyone that does not look like themselves?
For those bible pushers - when Abraham was confronted by three strangers at night, would they open their homes to them and give them food and shelter like he did or would they turn them away with the threat of violence if they didn't peacefully leave? I mean, it turned out the strangers were Angels testing Abraham to see if he recognized the holy in everyone - including strangers and others that don't look like himself. Fat chance the "don't be mean" crowd would recognize their hypocrisy and bullshit refusal that science is part of life that has been given to us to understand and appreciate. When Obama said these types "cling to their guns and bibles", he could not have been more correct. When Hillary Clinton labeled them "Deplorables" she was spot on.
We won't be able to fix our nation's largest problems until millions recognize their forfeiture of independent thought is the root cause for their own troubles - not others. It is always tough to asses real damages when the injuries inflicted are self-inflicted. And MAGA today are just screaming for action based solely on their fears and misgivings, This alone is a reason for Donald Trump to no longer be President. Nowhere in the Constitution does it require a president to pander, lie, steal and distract Americans from the core values we have traditionally embraced as a nation.
We can only hope there is a "silver lining" to everything that is going on. Especially one that should satisfy the Evangelical crowd that refuses to live the life they claim to embrace - that Trump was sent by Heaven to illuminate our hateful ignorance and force us to reconcile that steps are now necessary to protect liberty for all and our environment. Self-hate can be all-consuming - just like Trump's ego. As I've said time and time again and will continue to do so until the "cows come home," Donald Trump and Trumpism must be soundly defeated this November. Only with an overwhelmingly defeat will MAGAs wake up and realize they too have been victims of the Trump scam. Until then, we will remain a nation divided - between those that think and those that don't.
With a sweep of both chambers and the White House in November, watch the GOP go nuts when the Democrats employ the same working strategies the GOP employed for the past decade (one that excludes them for active participation and minimizes their legislative efforts). The GOP will only then "reap what they sow." November can't come soon enough. Have a safe week.
