So what could possibly cause McCain to claim Powell's legacy is now diminished by endorsing the President? Is it perhaps because Powell did more than just endorse Obama but went further? According to Powell on The Morning Show on CBS, "The governor who was speaking on Monday night at the debate was saying things that were quite different from what he said earlier. I’m not quite sure which Governor Romney we would be getting with respect to foreign policy, I don’t sense he’s thought through these issues as thoroughly as he should have. He gets advice from his campaign staff that he then has to modify as he goes along.” Are these comments enough to warrant McCain's angst? Considering McCain called for boots on the ground in Libya and direct military intervention in Syria, he has little standing to bash Powell for his comments about Romney. Could it simply be that McCain is still stung by Powell's endorsement of Obama in 2008? Sounds like sour grapes to me.
(C) NYTimes Has John McCain officially gone senile? Why would I use such a harsh word to describe someone so esteemed by the American public as a war hero, public servant and former Republican standard bearer? Because McCain claims Former Bush Secretary of State, General Colin Powell's endorsement of President Obama has "harmed" Powell's legacy. Harmed Powell's legacy? Wasn't Powell's immense stature as a military hero abused by the George W. Bush administration by directing him t0 address the United Nations demanding the world attack Saddam Hussein and Iraq based upon false information? When Powell found out the information provided him was fake, he was livid and he made it publicly known. By doing so, Powell's credibility soared to even greater heights.
