Which brings me to the point of this posting. One of the responders to my proof that the email sent out by a friend was not true about Obama pulling a video from Sean Hannity's show on Fox came back at me with a litany of cuts proposed by Paul Ryan and why they are necessary. Huh? I pointed out the email about Obama is an outright lie and instead of acknowledging it is a lie, I get a list of cuts to the budget that are necessary and why everyone should support Romney and Ryan. How this has anything to do with the lies being spread on the Internet is beyond me, but perhaps you are beginning to see my point. I could not help but read the list the responder claimed America MUST make in order to reduce the "out of control deficit" that Romney claims we owe to China (which is also a massive LIE).
So let's look at some of these "very necessary" cuts to the budget.
1. Eliminate the subsidy for the Corporation For Public Broadcasting. Really? It costs 80 cents a year per family for this subsidy. It will save us $445 million (the price of two fighter jets we don't need).
2. Cut all subsidies for The Legal Services Corporation. WHAT? This provides legal services to the poor that cannot pay to pursue civil legal claims against companies that cheat and steal from the poor and working Americans. Bet the Chamber of Commerce wants that entity to go away...it makes businesses play fair with people that otherwise cannot afford a lawyer to fight them. 3. Eliminate all subsidies for the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities because that will save us over $167.5 million. But this money helps pay for orchestras and symphonies along with artists and art programs. Ironic isn't it that during the height of the Great Depression, Franklin Roosevelt increased spending on the arts?! 4. Cut all Amtrak subsidies because that would save us $1.565 Billion. But without the subsidies, commuters that ride trains to work will have to make up the difference. And what is the alternative, hitting the highways (that are already falling apart)? Still no cuts to the subsidies to oil companies? No. Coal Companies? Nope. Why? Because they are on the lobby payroll of the Koch Brothers. 5. Eliminate the Community Development Fund to save $4.5 Billion. So much for saving inner cities, brownfield areas and reclaiming blighted areas with rehabilitation. Slums to brownstones? Keep the economy rolling or kill community development? Who does this effect? Folks living in metropolitan areas. It also crushes small cities throughout America attempting to improve older areas for economic growth. 6. Cut all support for Energy Grants for Weatherization (it has a direct effect on northern "cold weather" states). The savings come in the form of lower utility bills (electricity, heating fuel and coal). Guess who benefits from these cuts? 7. Eliminating Intercity and high speed rail grants. Again, we should all drive, use oil and gas and overload roads. 8. Eliminate all General Assistance to the District of Columbia. Guess that means they will become our 51st state..."No Taxation Without Representation." 9. Sell all Federal properties not currently in use. This is code for selling off national land reserves. Anyone remember "Teapot Dome?" 10. De-fund the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act..."Obamacare." Really? And replace it with what? These are just 10 areas Republicans support cutting. Amazingly, the list conveniently omits the $716 Billion cuts to Medicare proposed by Paul Ryan. Any wonder why?
THIS though was my response to the email with the list of cuts; "I have no idea why you seem to think I need information from you. You never addressed my comment about the email which is a lie. You simply wish to find some sort of rationale for your position. You are entitled to it. But at least be honest, the email is a fabrication and is not the truth. I suggested you read my book. Perhaps you thought I was kidding. I was not." I have not heard another word from the guy! Spin and Pivot, but not the truth!
I will be observing Yom Kippur tomorrow and Wednesday and will be with Robyn Davis on The Robyn Report on Thursday, See you on the radio at www.1490wwpr.com.
