So what gives with members of the GOP admitting they have undertaken efforts recently to change the structure of the Electoral College? Really, the Republicans have admitted they are taking steps on a state by state basis to change the way electors are chosen under the current system of "Winner Take All" to one of "Proportional" distribution based upon voting totals in congressional districts, commonly known as "Gerrymandering." In other words, the GOP, having lost the 2012 Presidential Election by losing both popular and electoral vote, have decided to change the customary rules that will enable them to still win the Presidency, even if they win only a slight portion of the vote. Confused?
Think of it this way. Southern States are most likely lost to the Democrats for at least another generation. As a result, the GOP must divide and conquer rural areas of key Electoral states, like Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. By creating "Electoral" districts based upon politically favorable demographics (or "Gerrymandering"), the GOP can carve just enough proportional Electoral Votes to put future Presidential elections into "play" where the current system would not provide such an avenue. Their design is to not only gerrymander congressional districts (which they have already successfully accomplished), but also then will create a system rigged to guarantee future electoral victories, despite representing fewer and fewer Americans.
As I wrote long ago, when Democrats lose elections, they suck it up and go about the Country's business. When Republicans lose, they claim the elections were stolen and Americans have been duped. Ironic isn't it that the Party planning to steal and dupe is the GOP? Leave the Electoral College alone...the Framers created it just to protect US from thieves and scam artists!
