Just a short blog for this week folks. Today we heard Donald Trump saying he may have to move the November election due to potential fraud in the collection of mail in ballots (even though he and the bulk of his administration vote by mail). We witnessed Trump attorney Bill Bar smugly respond to questions about his authority and willingness to cast aside Constitutional foundations in support of his beloved boss. We also saw GOP members of Congress claim the Democrats are politicizing the wearing of face masks to combat Coronavirus yet now know their own members are testing positive. We also learned today that a long-time GOP Trump ally has died of Covid-19. The GOP response? Let's ask Bill Barr if Trump can delay the elections. Oh, and we must put children back in school to save the economy. As of today, the US has just broken a record for the worst drop in Gross National Product in our HISTORY (including the Great Depression). Yet, the stock market is still cruising on inflated winning streaks propped up by the Federal Reserve. What will happen when that crashes and burns? Blame Biden? It sure seems like blaming Biden is the only thing the GOP has. Bill Barr blamed Biden and Obama for not leaving enough PPE to combat the virus - even though Trump has been in charge now for 3 1/2 years. Blaming your predecessor might work for awhile, but doing so well after you have taken charge is a losing argument (unless you are a MAGA - then losing is something you are very familiar with). Just like Trump - a big loser.
No, Donald Trump has no authority to delay our Federal elections. That authority solely rests in the halls of Congress. Now we know Mitch McConnell would lead his GOP Senate to accept Tump's demands, but the Framers were wise enough to require both chambers to do so. Is there any doubt Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats would allow anything to let Trump remain in office beyond his term? Fat chance, right?
America is falling apart at the seams. No matter how much divisiveness one might claim Obama caused, nothing like this has been seen, well since 1861. We all know how that turned out. Stay vigilant. Make sure you are registered to vote. Vote early to make sure it's counted. Demand the Constitution be upheld, because it is high time we collectively take out the Trump trash polluting our Country.
