As mentioned in an earlier blog, Huckabee and Cruz seems to never miss an opportunity to mislead fellow Americans into believing that they themselves are the only ones capable of interpreting the Constitution and that only righteous Christians can determine what to believe or not believe. When asked at the carnival-like made for TV event celebrating Ms. Davis' release from self-imposed jailing, what she should do when she returns to work, Huckabee's response was telling. "I can't advise her, that's a legal matter!" Just after claiming that Courts are "tyrannical" and only the Law of Jesus shall control his and any other believers' actions. Huh? Once again, those that are "holier than thou" ignore their own hypocrisy and twisted logic. Huckabee went on to claim he bases his beliefs on the Bible and the Constitution - without recognizing that the First Amendment forbids recognition of a national religion and also establishes the role of the ("tyrannical") Supreme Court in Article III.
It is particularly troublesome when he says the Court made up its own laws and that no such ruling could have been reached without their lawless over-reach. Except the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment was the basis of the ruling and that IS found in the Constitution - and the role of the Court as the sole arbitrator of what the Constitution means has been theirs alone since the creation of Judicial Review in Marbury v. Madison (1803). So wake up folks and realize that many Americans are so ignorant when they cheer demagogues and hucksters as they are purposely led astray - which IS dangerous to our democratic-republic.
As a very religious President Jimmy Carter once wrote; "I think there ought to be a strict separation or wall built between our religious faith and our practice of political authority in office. I don't think the President of the United States should extoll Christianity if he happens to be a Christian at the expense of Judaism, Islam or other faiths." And as a very religious President John Adams once wrote; "Power always thinks...that it is doing G-d's service when it is violating all his laws." May we as Americans, continue to be blessed with G-d's great majesty, and save us from charlatans and hucksters whose only devise is to seek power at the expense of those that do not share their beliefs. Have a great week!
