Joe Biden on the other hand, had to meet a much higher bar of expectations due to Obama's debacle in Denver. Joe Biden is commonly known by Conservatives as a "Buffoon" "Dunce" or "The Gaffinator" so he risked very little in acting the part of being Obama's pit bull against Ryan. More importantly, Biden had to move the needle back into positive territory with the Democratic base so that Obama will still have a chance to shine against Romney in the next two debates. Bottom line...Biden also did his job. As many pundits will tell you, any tie in a debate between an incumbent and a challenger goes to the incumbent. But because Biden being able to move the needle back into positive territory for the Democratic base was so critical for the Obama campaign, I believe Joe Biden won the debate. This impression is only confirmed when every GOP commentator complains not about what Biden said during the debate, but how he was "rude" and "mean" towards Ryan. Watch Obama be just as rude and mean in the next two debates against Romney and watch the Democratic faithful push his poll numbers back up in the Swing States.
As a result, I now believe we may see a contested election wherein Romney has a chance to win the popular vote, yet still lose the Electoral College vote to Obama. Watch how fast the GOP faithful claim we need to do away with the Electoral College if this happens (even though it was the Democrat's complaint in 2000). Despite Biden's successful performance last night, I score the race Romney 1, Biden 1 with Romney maintaining a 1/2 game lead over Obama. Why? Because Biden is the JV and Obama needs to step it up in the debates to retake the lead. My bet is on Obama bringing his "A" game. But we still have a game to play!
